Marshmallow Cereal Treats

One of my dear friends makes the best Rice Krispie treats EVER. Now I know that seems crazy to say for something that is only 3 ingredients, but I stand by my statement. I could easily eat the majority of the pan when she brings it around. I took her tricks and replicated it but added my favorite fruity cereal to make some amazing treats.

The key to her’s being so chewy but still keeping the crunch I found out is all in the way you melt the marshmallows.  Melt all but approximately 2 cups of marshmallows, once those are melted completely add in the last 2 cups and stir just slightly. There will still be clumps of unmelted marshmallows in the mixture when it is time to add in the cereal, and this is what you want. When adding in the cereal it will leave these perfectly half-melted marshmallows throughout the whole pan and it’s truly a game-changer. The last tip is to not over press the mixture into the pan, allow it to be tall, and have air in the bars, this keeps them soft. This makes a very large batch! Your 9x13 pan will be very full!

  • MARSHMALLOW CEREAL TREATS

  • 6 TBSP Butter

  • 3 c. Rice Krispies

  • 7 c. Fruity Pebbles

  • 24 oz. Marshmallows

  • Melt butter in a large pot. Add in all but 2 cups of marshmallows (about 16 oz). Melt completely. Remove from heat, add in the last two cups of marshmallows, and stir slightly, just to coat them in the already melted mallows. You do not want them to melt completely, then add in cereal and stir until completely coated in marshmallows. Press lightly into greased 9x13 pan (pan will be very full) and allow to cool completely.

My favorite combination is easily 2/3 parts Fruity pebbles, and 1/3 part Rice Krispies. I like to incorporate some classic Rice Krispies because they tend to hold up to the warm melted marshmallows a little bit better and help keep the crunch. Although this is my personal favorite there is no wrong answer with these delicious treats. Lucky Charms are sure to be a kid favorite too. Don’t be afraid to get adventurous with flavors another fan favorite is Cinnamon Toast Crunch, keep all measurements for butter and marshmallows the same but use 10 total cups of cereal.
