Cowboy Caviar

football season means game day parties. No football gathering is complete without a full spread of chips and dips. We asked on our social media recently for our followers to share their favorite dips with us. We got so many great responses, and asked for a few recipes that sounded delicious. We are hoping to share these dips over the next few weeks. Some are classic go tos, but a few are not on everyone’s usual rotation.

  • COWBOY CAVIAR

  • 1 large jar picante sauce

2 (16 ounce) cans black eyed peas, drained

1 (16 ounce) can white hominy, drained

1 cup diced green bell pepper

    1 cup chopped white onion

    1 cup chopped fresh tomato

    1/4 c. finely chopped cilantro

1/4 c. jalapeno, seeded and chopped

    1 tablespoon sugar

    1 tablespoon salt

    1 tablespoon pepper

    2 tablespoons ground cumin

  • Combine all ingredients into large bowl. Cover and let chill before serving.  Serve with tortilla chips.

**When we went grocery shopping we struggled finding black eyed peas so we subbed in those for 1 can of black beans and 1 can of whole kernel corn. Highly recommend this sub if you can't find everything you need.

Not that this dip needs any more flavor, but we suggest giving it a try with flavored tortilla chips. We personally love the brand Late July, Jalapeno Lime flavor.

Cowboy Caviar is so good and can be made multiple different ways. We would love to know how you make yours! What do you include?
